How to pray the Rosary with the Glorious, Joyful and Sorrowful Mysteries

How to pray the rosary is simple and making use of a rosary allows you to meditate more fully on the mysteries so you don't need to count or keep track of your prayers in another manner.

It is also highly advantageous to make sure your rosary is blessed by a priest. Doing so makes it a Sacramental, from which you will gain more graces when using it and also when you kiss the crucifix when you make the Sign of the Cross.

Why Different Size Beads?

One of the most common questions from those learning to say the Rosary is: 'Why are the Rosary beads different sizes?' The different size beads help you know where you are on your rosary and which prayers to say.

'Our Fathers' are said on the large beads, and 'Hail Marys' are said on the smaller ones. On the space between the last Hail Mary of a decade and the next Our Father, say a Glory Be and the Fatima prayer.

Steps 5 and 6 below are the body of the Rosary, steps 1-4 and 9 are optional, but it is the norm to complete all steps 1-9 when praying your daily rosary.

N.B. If you are saying all 15 decades at one time or even throughout the day, (Joyful mysteries in the morning, Sorrowful in the afternoon, and Glorious at night) it is common practice to do steps 1-8 for the first set of mysteries you say, then just the five decades of the next mystery, and then for the last mysteries, to say just the 5 decades and then complete your rosary with step 9.
