Do you feel your need for choosing a vocation is fast approaching and you are uncertain of which route you should go? Making a decision on a Catholic vocation is a tough one, especially if you don't feel drawn to anything in particular.

Please don't feel like you are alone in your decision of choosing a vocation. It is the rare soul who knows from a young age what he/she is called to be when they grow up. Notice I didn't say 'wants to be', because very often, sometimes what we are DRAWN too isn't what God INTENDS for us to do. Perfect examples of what I mean are Louis and Zelie Martin, the parents of St Therese of Lisieux.
Both felt their vocation calling was to a religious state of life, tried it out, and were told they didn't have vocations to the religious life. How grateful we are to them for not trying to exert 'their' will, but being open to the Will of God in regards to their vocations for they have, by doing so, given us one of the greatest saints of all time! St Therese of the Child Jesus, pray for us!
Are you feeling pressure from outside sources, but you feel torn in another direction? It's a good time then to step away from that influence, make a retreat, or go to a place for a while where you can think more clearly. It's always best to have the guidance of your spiritual director, and if you don't have one you go to regularly at least for Confession, your parish priest will be able to guide you easily enough.
Trying to decipher whether each of us is called to the religious, married or the single state in life, can be a burden. If you are conferring with your spiritual director, have made one or more retreats, and are offering these prayer intentions daily in your Masses and/or your Rosary, have confidence that eventually God will lead you to your vocation. It might not be this month or even this decade, but it will happen.
Sometimes God has a use for you in the world as a single person before you marry or enter a seminary or convent. So, take the pressure off yourself and do your duty of state and eventually, choosing a vocation will be easy and your way made clear.
I know some say that the single life isn't a vocation, but let's face it, there are those who just shouldn't/can't get married or enter the religious life!!!
The first prayer below is usually used by an individual while thinking of, or choosing a vocation.
The next prayer for vocations, is one that is good to say in general for all vocations, for everyone. (At least for those who have yet to decide on a vocation!) ;-)
Praying your daily Rosary and including the intentions for vocations is also a great option!
Behold me here, O most clement Virgin! at thy feet to obtain from thee the very important grace, to know what I should do. I desire nothing save, in the whole course of my life, perfectly to accomplish the Will of thy Divine Son. O Mother of Good Counsel! make me hear thy voice, which from my mind shall remove all doubt. Whereas thou art the Mother of my Savior, I hope in thee, that thou mayest be the Mother of my salvation, O Mary! Hear, therfore, my humble supplication. Allow me not to go astray through my doubts and irresolution. Lead me in the straight way that leads to eternal life. Thou are my sole hope. In thy hands are the abundant treasures of righteousness and of life, and thence thou pourest forth fruits of honour and holiness. Amen.
Taken from my Mother's prayer book, "Flowers from the Garden of the Precious Blood"
O God, who wills not the death of a sinner, but rather that he be converted and live, grant we beseech Thee, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and all of the saints, an increase of laborers for Thy Church, fellow laborers with Christ, to spend and consume themselves for souls, through the same Jesus Christ, Thy Son our Lord, Who livest and reignest forever. Amen
